How Do I Choose Art for my Home?

If you're like us, you pride yourself on style. We make aesthetic choices everyday from the shirt we wear to our favorite pair of summer shades. Why should our homes be any exception? Decorating your home with art can be a fun and easy way to add personality and style to your living space. Here are a few top-trending tips to consider:

1) Choose a Theme

Selecting a theme for your art collection is often the best place to begin. Doing so can help tie everything together in a cohesive manner. If you prefer to dive in head-first with artworks that you just really love, then by all means ditch the theme idea... The theme could just be what you love! Whether it's a particular color palette, style, material, or concept, having a unifying theme will make your collection feel intentional and curated.

2) Mix & Match

Be fearless! Don't be afraid to mix and match different styles and mediums. Try pairing a modern "Tablet Artifact" with a breathtaking landscape, or pairing an afro-futuristic "Totem Artifact" with a stunning portrait. This will not only add visual interest to your walls, but will also make your collection much more dynamic!

3) Look for Quality!

This really should be #1. Investing in high-quality pieces turns your art collection into an asset that grows in value. With top quality materials that stand the test of time, the artwork is worth more as the artist's career grows! If the artwork is cheaply made, and could fall apart in 10 years, maybe it's not the wisest investment?

4) Consider Size

Make sure the size of the artwork is appropriate for the space. A large piece will overwhelm a small room, while a tiny piece may get lost in a large space. Maybe try hanging a plethora of smaller pieces salon-style in a large area to slowly populate the area. Large pieces are always attention grabbers so if you have the space, a large painting is one of the best conversation-starters when guests come over for dinner!

5) Don't Forget the Details

One of the biggest questions when collecting art is the frame. After all, the frame can make all the difference in how the work is presented. Choosing a frame that compliments the style and palette of the piece is essential for the artwork to shine. At X-Artifacts, we frame all our work with a simple floater frame as to not distract from the art itself. A floater frame provides some breathing room around the piece. Floaters make the work appear to float within a simple gold or silver trim.
